Naro, Morillo palace, Sicilian baroque at its best

Here we are in Naro the “Fulgentissima“ as Frederick II liked to call it, Italian Capital of Culture 2025. We are in the province of Agrigento, a few kilometers from the Valley of the Temples and the splendid Sicilian sea. A town where the Baroque reaches one of the highest expressions in Sicily with its monuments, churches and palaces to the delight of inhabitants, tourists and lovers of culture and architecture. Here is located Palazzo Morillo, a Baroque building from the 1700s, between the main Corso Vittorio Emanuele the Via Specchi and the Via Riolo. What we are about to visit today is the main floor of an ancient mansion, a splendid expression of 18th-century Baroque as well as one of the main and elegant palaces in the city. The entrance is from Via Riolo through

a carved wooden doorway. An imposing marble staircase enriched with arches and columns leads us to the floor consisting of eight large rooms, kitchen services while the external facade is enriched by as many as 7 balconies with stone base with fine moldings friezes and decorations. Internal stairs lead us to the upper floor where we find an additional service and the beautiful terrace from which to admire the picturesque old town and the sea. This historic home covers an area of more than 400 square meters and going from one room to another is a unique experience where you can admire the sought-after ceramics that in each room compose a different and characteristic design or optical effect under your feet, while your gaze will be lost in the high frescoed ceilings.…
